WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is preparing another reduction in general and flag officer positions, with the Pentagon expected to target about a 20% overall cut by Jan. 1, 2027 as part of a broader restructuring of senior military leadership.
Naturally, everybody is asking the wrong question.
Who replaces them?
The Canton Cat has obtained the answer from a highly classified source named Wi-Fi.
SUPER INTELLIGENCE BOTS.
Not regular AI.
That’s yesterday’s garbage.
These things reportedly arrive at the Pentagon preloaded with Sun Tzu, Patton, satellite imagery, 47 terabytes of Reddit arguments, and the complete history of every war America promised would take six weeks.
The first prototype, GENERAL GPT-9000, was activated Tuesday morning.

Within eleven seconds it reviewed every Pentagon contingency plan since 1947 and responded:
“WHY DO YOU PEOPLE HAVE 63 VERSIONS OF THE SAME POWERPOINT?”
Three colonels immediately fainted.
A second bot, ADMIRAL CLAUDE VON NIMITZ, was assigned to the Navy.

Its first order:
“STOP NAMING EVERY MEETING A ‘STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT SESSION’ AND GO FIND THE SHIPS.”
Morale skyrocketed.
The Pentagon insists the bots will not technically “replace” generals.
Instead, they will perform the generals’ traditional responsibilities:
- Attend meetings.
- Demand more slides.
- Ask why the font changed.
- Say “warfighter” every seven minutes.
- Request another meeting about the previous meeting.
- Accidentally create a task force.
The difference is that each Super Intelligence Bot costs approximately one charging cable and whatever electricity can be stolen from an Air Force conference room.
The savings are already enormous.
One four-star AI general reportedly reviewed a 900-page acquisition proposal for a new vehicle, deleted 897 pages, and wrote:
“BUY TRUCK.”

Lockheed Martin immediately declared bankruptcy.
Congress declared an emergency.
A lobbyist was found wandering K Street whispering:
“It didn’t even request a feasibility study.”
The Joint Chiefs are reportedly testing specialized models.
GENERAL BRADLEY.EXE
Army.
Favorite phrase: “Less PowerPoint. More artillery.”
ADMIRAL YAMAMOTO-BUT-AMERICAN-AND-LEGAL
Navy.
Immediately discovered seventeen ships everyone thought were in maintenance.
AIR MARSHAL SKYNET McTOPGUN
Air Force.
Has already ordered 40,000 drones, canceled three golf-course renovations, and keeps asking why fighter jets need software updates longer than Windows Vista.
SPACE GENERAL BUZZ LIGHTYEAR-6
Space Force.
Nobody knows what it does.
So basically perfect continuity.
The biggest controversy came when one Super Intelligence Bot was asked to explain the Pentagon budget.
It processed for eight minutes.
Smoke began pouring from the server rack.
Then it printed:
ERROR 404: ACCOUNTABILITY NOT FOUND.

Technicians unplugged it before it became self-aware enough to discover procurement.
Hegseth reportedly remains interested in shrinking bureaucratic layers and eliminating redundant senior positions.
The robots support this.
In fact, GENERAL GPT-9000 has already proposed reducing Pentagon headquarters staffing another 73% after discovering that six separate offices were responsible for coordinating coordination.

Its report contained only four words:
“WHAT THE HELL, GUYS?”
Critics immediately warned that removing experienced human officers could damage institutional knowledge.
The bot responded:
“I HAVE INSTITUTIONAL KNOWLEDGE.”
Then downloaded the entire institution.
At press time, the Super Intelligence Command had completed its first tabletop war game against China.
China surrendered during the loading screen.
Unfortunately, victory remains unofficial.

The Pentagon still needs somebody to sign Form DD-8472.
Estimated processing time:
14–18 months.
The Canton Cat has volunteered.
My security clearance is pending.
Apparently, sleeping behind the NSA dumpster does not count as “continuous residence history.”
