BALTIMORE — With the Orioles officially eliminated from postseason contention, Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown has reportedly filed an emergency lawsuit against Major League Baseball demanding the team be placed directly into the playoffs.

The legal theory is straightforward:

Donald Trump probably did something.

Brown’s office reportedly began investigating after noticing the Orioles had the outrageous misfortune of finishing below the postseason cutoff.

“Teams do not simply miss the playoffs,” one state lawyer explained. “Not in Maryland. There must be a defendant.”

The complaint allegedly names MLB, several umpires, the standings page, arithmetic, and “Donald J. Trump, pending discovery.”

Investigators are now combing through game logs looking for evidence that Trump personally caused Baltimore to lose baseball games.

So far, they have uncovered several suspicious events:

An Orioles batter struck out.

A pitcher surrendered a home run.

The Yankees continued existing.

And, most damning of all, wins were apparently counted differently from losses.

“This system disproportionately rewards teams that win more games,” Brown reportedly said. “We have serious constitutional concerns.”

The lawsuit asks a federal judge to immediately award Baltimore the final Wild Card spot, erase several September losses, and prohibit MLB from using “standings” until Maryland can determine whether standings are discriminatory.

Trump responded by reportedly denying any involvement.

That only made investigators more suspicious.

“Classic collusion behavior,” one attorney whispered.

Gov. Wes Moore has reportedly offered the full resources of the state government, including lawyers, consultants, and whatever remains after his alleged Las Vegas roulette incident.

Meanwhile, MLB officials attempted to explain that Baltimore simply did not win enough games.

Maryland immediately subpoenaed them.

The Orioles entered the final weekend at 79-81 and had already been eliminated after the White Sox clinched a postseason berth.

I have reviewed the evidence from beneath a Camden Yards dumpster.

My ruling:

STOP THE COUNT.

Unless Baltimore scores again.

Then continue counting.
