Claire Valdez Campaign Accidentally Orders 40-Foot Mexican Flag for U.S. Congressional Office, Intern Quietly Adds Tiny American One From CVS

NEW YORK — Democratic congressional nominee Claire Valdez celebrated Mexican Independence Day by praising “comrades” in Mexico’s governing Morena party and declaring “¡Viva México!” while running for a seat in the United States Congress.

The Canton Cat stared at the post.

Then at a map.

Then back at the post.

“Did Queens get annexed overnight?”

Valdez is running in New York’s 7th Congressional District and has openly identified with democratic socialist politics, labor organizing and abolishing ICE.

Her patriotic message, however, had the unmistakable vibe of someone filling out an American job application while yelling across the room:

“DOES ANYONE KNOW IF MEXICO CITY HAS DIRECT DEPOSIT?”

Campaign staff reportedly scrambled to clarify that Valdez was discussing international working-class solidarity.

Unfortunately, the intern had already ordered campaign merchandise.

CLAIRE VALDEZ FOR CONGRESS

Underneath:

VIVA MÉXICO

Underneath that, in 8-point font:

Paid for by somebody who swears this is still a U.S. election.

Things got worse when Valdez referenced Mexico’s independence struggle as beginning 215 years ago.

Mexico marked the 216th anniversary in 2026.

The Canton Cat immediately convened an emergency revolutionary math committee.

“Before overthrowing capitalism, maybe overthrow 1810 from 2026.”

One imaginary aide was seen removing a calculator from campaign headquarters because it was deemed:

“too neoliberal.”

Another was reportedly updating the website:

CLAIRE VALDEZ — REPRESENTING NY-07*

*and emotionally several municipalities south of Texas

Campaign headquarters then unveiled a giant wall chart:

COUNTRY SHE IS RUNNING IN: 🇺🇸 USA

COUNTRY SHE IS YELLING “VIVA” ABOUT: 🇲🇽 MEXICO

COUNTRY THE INTERNS ARE NOW CONFUSED ABOUT: ALL OF THEM

Valdez’s politics emphasize organized labor and international working-class solidarity.

The Canton Cat supports solidarity too.

I have a mutual-defense treaty with two possums and a lesbian raccoon behind a Popeyes.

But I don’t run for alderman and end the speech with:

“LONG LIVE TORONTO.”

Sources say the campaign’s next event will feature a new communications rule:

Every time Claire says “comrade,” an intern must say “America” within 12 seconds.

Failure triggers a flashing red light and Lee Greenwood.

At one rehearsal, Valdez allegedly began:

“Brothers and sisters of the global proletariat—”

A campaign aide tackled the microphone.

“MA’AM. BROOKLYN FIRST.”

The event was paused for 20 minutes.

At press time, staff were replacing the enormous Mexican flag with something more campaign-appropriate.

They settled on a giant red banner reading:

THIS IS STILL TECHNICALLY A U.S. HOUSE RACE.

The Canton Cat approved.

“Excellent. Now put the bald eagle somewhere before Che Guevara shows up with a voter-registration clipboard.”
