Maryland Democrats Celebrate “Packed” Salisbury Office Opening Entirely Outside Office

SALISBURY, Md. — The Maryland Democratic Party celebrated what it called a packed opening for a new Salisbury field office, posting photos of supporters crowded together on the sidewalk.

The Canton Cat inspected the evidence.

“That’s not a packed office. That’s a line outside a building.”

The party says the Eastern Shore field office is meant to support candidates and organizing ahead of November. Maryland’s Democratic apparatus is active in Wicomico County, where the local Democratic Central Committee maintains a Salisbury presence.

But judging strictly from the photos, the grand opening had the unmistakable energy of:

“Our lease starts Monday.”

One imaginary organizer reportedly shouted:

“Everybody squeeze together! We need this to look grassroots, not like the landlord changed the locks.”

Supporters packed the sidewalk while the mysterious interior remained apparently reserved for advanced campaign activities such as:

having walls.

using chairs.

discovering where the bathroom is.

and eventually entering the office.

The Canton Cat briefly wondered whether the Democrats had already been evicted before completing the ribbon cutting.

There is no evidence of that.

But satire has evidence of something even more powerful:

a photograph begging for the joke.

Party officials emphasized that a dedicated Eastern Shore base matters for organizing in November.

The cat agreed.

“Having a headquarters is important. Traditionally, the headquarters is on the other side of the front door.”

Campaign veterans reportedly explained that outdoor events are perfectly normal.

Of course they are.

So are picnics.

Nobody calls the picnic blanket regional headquarters.

At press time, the Salisbury operation was preparing its next major organizing push:

Operation Find the Key.

The Canton Cat wished them luck.

“If they actually get inside, somebody update the turnout numbers.”
