ANNAPOLIS — Gov. Wes Moore has reportedly taken on a new mission: electing more Black governors across America.

“Historic!” proclaimed political observers.

Then somebody mentioned Byron Donalds.

“Oh,” Moore reportedly said in a statement we completely made up. “Not like that.”

Donalds, a Republican running for governor of Florida, presents an unfortunate technical malfunction in the emerging narrative: he is Black, he is running for governor, and he apparently forgot to obtain the correct party registration before becoming inspirational.

The Canton Cat has obtained Moore’s completely fictional eligibility checklist:

Maryland Del. Matt Morgan noticed the same little problem, joking that Donalds probably isn’t among the Black gubernatorial candidates Moore is eager to help.

This leaves Moore facing one of politics’ most difficult philosophical questions:

If a Black Republican wins an election and no Democrat celebrates it, did diversity actually happen?

The Canton Cat has dispatched investigators to Florida.
