TIMONIUM, Md. — The Maryland State Fair has officially entered the future after an AI-altered image of a robotic ram won first place in a photography contest, narrowly defeating several losers who made the rookie mistake of actually taking photographs.

The winning masterpiece, called “The R.A.M.”, began as a real picture of a sheep before being fed through Google Gemini’s Nano Banana and transformed into what appears to be livestock preparing to invade Poland.

It won the fair’s “Neon Lights” category, where rules permitted photographs to be “embellished,” apparently leaving open the crucial artistic question:

“How much of the photograph are we allowed to replace before this becomes a screensaver?”

The artist received $11, immediately making this one of the most financially successful AI ventures in Maryland history.

Several human photographers complained that entering the contest required cameras, lighting, composition, printing, mounting, and years of practice.

AI competitors reportedly required typing:

“Make sheep look badass. More neon. Cyberpunk. Award-winning. 8K.”

Fair officials acknowledged the situation exposed a hole in the rules and said future competitions will have clearer restrictions on generative AI.

This reportedly came as a surprise to officials, who had recently begun discussing the possibility that artificial intelligence might someday affect photography.

AI had apparently been waiting outside the fairgrounds wearing sunglasses and a fake mustache.

The Canton Cat has obtained several proposed categories for next year’s competition:

Entrants may photograph Maryland or generate Switzerland.

BEST PORTRAIT
Human subject optional.

BEST WILDLIFE
Extra points if the animal has laser eyes.

BEST HISTORICAL PHOTO
Submit any Maryland event you wish had happened.

BEST FARM ANIMAL
Winner automatically upgraded into a Transformer.

One disgruntled photographer was reportedly seen leaving the exhibition hall carrying $600 worth of camera equipment while whispering, “I should’ve just told the robot to add fog.”

Meanwhile, the cyber-ram has reportedly retained representation, launched an Instagram account, and announced plans to run for the Maryland General Assembly.

Political insiders immediately rated the sheep Safe D.

At press time, Maryland State Fair judges were reviewing another suspicious submission titled “Majestic Baltimore Harbor at Sunset,” featuring six moons, a 900-foot crab, the Eiffel Tower, and Governor Wes Moore riding a bald eagle.

Officials said they could not immediately determine whether it had been manipulated.

“Less is more,” one judge explained while staring directly at three suns.
